Would you like to bring the human, economic and institutional side to environmental projects across Indonesia? Sirkularium is building a standing pool of Social, Economic and Governance Specialists, engaged as consultants for PT Sirkularium Strategic Solution. This vacancy is always open: you can apply at any time and applications are reviewed as projects arise. You would bring the social, economic and governance dimensions to Sirkularium's environmental work, across solid waste, energy and climate, water, sustainable mining and other areas. The work is remote, based in Jakarta, and open to different expertise levels and engagement schemes.

About Sirkularium

Sirkularium is an Indonesian consultancy working on the environment across three practices: Waste and Pollution, Energy and Climate, and Sustainable Resources. The work spans solid waste, energy and climate, water, sustainable mining and the circular economy, for government bodies and companies.

Sirkularium has worked with a Danish government institution, the Danish Environmental Protection Agency, under the Strategic Sector Cooperation programme. This gives the team direct experience with international governance and reporting standards.

Your role

As a Social, Economic and Governance Specialist you bring the social, economic and institutional dimensions to Sirkularium's projects, whichever practice they sit in. You design community engagement, build local economic approaches, and strengthen the institutions and governance that make environmental programmes work and last.

You complement the technical specialists: while they design the systems, you make sure they are adopted, financed, governed and sustained. Your expertise is applied flexibly across solid waste, energy and climate, water, sustainable mining and other environmental topics.

What you will do

  • Design and lead community engagement, empowerment and behaviour-change programmes for environmental projects
  • Develop local economic and financing approaches, such as circular business models, incentives and cost-recovery mechanisms
  • Assess the social and institutional context, using stakeholder mapping, field studies and social or anthropological methods
  • Advise on governance, institutional arrangements, roles and financing for programmes at city, regency, provincial or company level
  • Support policy, regulation and incentive design that encourages participation and lasting adoption
  • Deliver dissemination activities: training, public campaigns and workshops with communities, government and industry
  • Engage stakeholders across government, communities, cooperatives, private operators, industry and business associations

Expertise levels

  • Associate: Bachelor (S1) in economics, social science, governance or a related field, up to 3 years of experience. Focus: field work, studies and drafting support.
  • Specialist: Bachelor or Master (S1 / S2), 3 to 7 years of experience. Focus: leads community, economy or governance workstreams.
  • Senior Specialist: Master (S2), or Bachelor with a strong track record, 8+ years of experience. Focus: leads social and governance strategy; principal advisor.
  • All levels require a background in a relevant field such as economics or development studies, community development, sociology or anthropology, public policy or governance, or public administration. Fluency in Bahasa Indonesia is required; working English is an advantage.

Remuneration is negotiable and adjusted to your expertise level and the scheme you select. A corporate email address and business cards are provided while you are on an active engagement.

This is an always-open expert pool, so you can apply at any time; applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and matched to projects as they arise.
