Would you like to help Indonesian cities manage waste better and move toward a circular economy? Sirkularium is building a standing pool of Solid Waste Management Specialists, engaged as consultants for PT Sirkularium Strategic Solution. This vacancy is always open: you can apply at any time and applications are reviewed as projects arise. You would help cities and regencies across Indonesia improve how they manage solid waste, from strategy and planning through to implementation and public education. The work is remote, based in Jakarta, and open to different expertise levels and engagement schemes.

About the practice

Sirkularium's Waste and Pollution practice supports governments and companies on solid waste management, pollution control and the circular economy. The work ranges from strategic planning and master plans to hands-on advisory for cities and regencies.

Sirkularium has worked with a Danish government institution, the Danish Environmental Protection Agency, under the Strategic Sector Cooperation programme on solid waste management and the circular economy. This gives the team direct experience with international governance and reporting standards.

Your role

As a Solid Waste Management Specialist you develop strategic documents and advise cities on their waste systems. A central deliverable is the RIPS (Rencana Induk Pengelolaan Sampah), the solid waste management master plan that guides a city or regency's waste strategy.

You also support waste reduction and circular economy approaches, run dissemination activities such as training and workshops, and engage the local stakeholders who make waste systems work. The exact scope depends on your expertise level and the projects you join.

What you will do

  • Develop strategic solid waste documents, including the RIPS (Rencana Induk Pengelolaan Sampah) and related city and regency plans
  • Advise city and regency governments on solid waste systems, from collection and sorting to processing and final disposal
  • Support waste reduction, circular economy and waste-to-value approaches
  • Conduct baseline studies, including waste generation and composition analysis and technical feasibility work
  • Deliver dissemination activities: training, workshops and public education on solid waste management
  • Engage stakeholders, including local authorities, waste banks, communities, private operators and business associations
  • Provide technical review of regulations, standard procedures and reports on solid waste and pollution control

Expertise levels

  • Associate: Bachelor (S1) in environmental engineering or a related field, up to 3 years of experience. Focus: analysis, data and drafting support.
  • Specialist: Bachelor or Master (S1 / S2), 3 to 7 years of experience. Focus: leads document sections and city advisory.
  • Senior Specialist: Master (S2), or Bachelor with a strong track record, 8+ years of experience. Focus: leads RIPS end to end; principal advisor.
  • All levels require a background in environmental engineering or a related field, such as environmental science, civil or infrastructure engineering, public health or urban planning. Fluency in Bahasa Indonesia is required; working English is an advantage.
